Design Process

According to Benedetta Tagliabue, the greatest challenge of interpretting Martha Thorne 's dream was to “create a design that we love, that amuses us and which other people can identify with. An object that is communicative and affectionate.

To make the design process as beautiful and enjoyable as possible, since it is this process which ultimately determines the outcome of the final object.

“Another of Benedetta’s project goals was “to make the design process as beautiful and enjoyable as possible, since it is this process which ultimately determines the outcome of the final object. ”

Benedetta and her team conducted thorough research and drew inspiration from the techniques, styles and craft traditions from Martha’s home state of New York. For example they were inspired by the ” shakers “, a religious community whose dedicaton to hard work and perfection resulted in a unique range of architecture , furniture and craftsmanship.
